Note about hip reports- While OFA has reported Unilateral Mild Dysplasia on her left hip, PLEASE NOTE: PennHip DID NOT find dysplasia nor any signs of DJD in the left hip, with the right being NORMAL. There is a greater chance of her developing DJD later on in life, BUT also may NOT change at all. My vet (with Salem's COMPLETE history from the day she was born!!!!) has come to the conclusion that the left hip laxity is a result of Salem having severly broken a weight bearring toe as a young puppy and the way she learned to carry herself during the 14 weeks it took to heal. This is a classic sign of truama & environment playing a roll and how it effects our dogs. It also shows us how different OFA & PennHip reports can be, and gives us a really great reason why both should be done in order to give us Breeders more information and insight on how our dogs should be evaluated in the breeding process. Salem's hips are now under review to see if there is a different conclusion with OFA/PennHip. Please be aware that in the past, neither OFA nor PennHip has changed their decisions and the finial conclusion is left as is. So, this will leave you to make a judgement call, if you are considering one of Salem's Pups. Please feel free to contact me to discuss any questions you may have. Thanks!
